We help Mr. R read his bills
Riverstone helps lifetime social worker
Mr. R is 72 years old and immigrated from Argentina to the United States in his 20s. He has never been married and has no children. He lives alone in a one-bedroom apartment in Morningside Heights. Mr. R is visually impaired and suffers from several medical conditions, including depression, COPD and a heart condition. Before retirement, he worked as a social worker in New York City for most of his adult life.
Mr. R has some savings and lives adequately on a monthly income from Social Security retirement and a pension. Isabella Geriatric Center’s meals-on-wheels program referred him to Riverstone because he requested more support around bill payment.
A social worker meets with Mr. R biweekly
Along with help to read his mail and pay his bills, Mr. R’s social worker also coordinates his care with medical and home care providers, provides referrals to additional social supports in the community, such as VISIONS and SAGE Harlem, and provides supportive counseling. With the support of Isabella Geriatric Center, Riverstone’s bill paying program and the other support services that Mr. R is now involved with he, is able to continue to live independently in his apartment.
